Garage Door Sensors
Garage doors are the number two source of home injuries, with decks being the number one source of home injuries. Garage doors are required by code to have garage door sensor on them that will prevent a door from shutting on a person, vehicle or domestic pet. The way the sensor works is by an inferred signal, that when the signal is broken the motor in the door stops and the door will not go down. By code the sensor should be six inches above the ground. Gold Home Inspection performs both a visual inspection of the garage door sensor and a test on every door. In the visual test Gold Home Inspection just observes the sensor, makes sure its mounted to the frame of the garage, observes the wiring (12 volt) hookups and makes sure no object are blocking the sensor beam. The unit is then tested by closing the door and placing an object or person in the beam. If the door stops than the sensors are working. If the door continues to shut than the system needs to be serviced by a garage door repair person. Sensors that do not work put children and pets at considerable risk. These sensor are very important and inexpensive.
Gold Home Inspection
Every home that we inspect that has a garage, rather attached or detach has a complete inspection of the garage and the garage door sensor. Included in the home inspection report are pictures of the sensors and a result of the test. When a unit does not work, we will provide video of the test, showing the unit not working. We will also recommend a garage door repair company, fix or replace the sensor system. This situation is especially dangerous for children and pets. Accidents caused by faulty garage doors are easy to prevent.
